Welcome to the grand illusion. Memories of clown legs looking like peppermint sticks. The Clown Burger which has been run by the same family since opening in 1959 was sold in May with plans for the new local owner taking over management at the end of the year. Looks like the clown will continue to smile and hopefully continue to serve thin patty double cheeseburgers for years to come. This Ramada Inn has been closed for so long that any streets leading up to it are now totally inaccessible. This Google Street View image is the best shot I was able to get. It has been abandoned for at least 15+ years and was put up for sale in 2009, to no avail. It has 248 rooms, a large dining room, kitchen, lounge, convention room and swimming pool. Hard to imagine why a place like this would sit vacant for so long. Located in Lafayette, Louisiana.
This cute display welcomes visitors to the town of Aurora, Texas. It’s a reminder of the legend about another visitor to the town; the alien pilot of the UFO that ran into a windmill and then crashed just north of town in the 1800′s.
Those of you who’ve been our followers for a while may have thought we’d vanished into the mist while on an explore of some desolate site; but not so. We’re still out here, we just haven’t posted for a while.
Near Carthage, Texas, is the only marker of an international boundary known to exist within the Continental United States. The boundary was established in 1840, and the marker was set in place on April 23, 1841, to designate the boundary between the United States and the Republic Of Texas.
A few weeks ago, I was looking through my telescope when I found this object. I have no idea what it was; but it was interesting the way it seemed to be rotating or spinning and the way it was so bright. I’m in Northeast Texas, and this was found looking North.
I always hated having to peer through the eyepiece of the telescope, so I modified a webcam by removing the lens and disconnecting the auto-focus feature it had so I can now plug it into my laptop for real-time viewing. The webcam fits perfectly into the telescope right where the eyepiece would go. Photography is simple now. I just click the mouse for either stills or video like this one. Viewing is even nicer. I can sit comfortably in a chair, looking at my laptop no matter what position the telescope’s in.
On March 13th, 2023, the Moon Winx Lodge of Tuscaloosa, Alabama was shut down for code violations. City Council President Kip Tyner stated, “Operating without a license, roach and rodent infestation, alleged prostitution. It was deplorable. This is an opportunity we have right now to shut down a dredge that’s been in our community for so long. What happened needed to happen.”
The motel dated back to the 1920s. Its iconic sign had been on the property for over 60 years. Two weeks after the motel closed, the sign was sold. Source
